Obi Manipulation

Obi fights with sashes: a barrage you can aim, a dash into a slash, a grab, a field of traps and a charge that climbs and dives. Players wanted hyper armor on the ultimate; since V0.182 it cannot be interrupted.

It runs from bare fists and, by one player's account, gives you longer-reaching M1s of its own. Its last move is Datai's scroll.

The five moves

  • ZObi BarrageMastery — · Points 3An aimable barrage of sashes that finishes in a slam, with hyper armor while it runs. One player finds the start-up long enough that you trade hits, and says opponents can block out of it.
  • XObi PursuitMastery ? · Points 6A dash that leads into a big slash, with a close-range variant.
  • CObi GrabMastery ? · Points ?Grab, flip and slam the target into the ground. One player thinks it goes through guard but is not sure.
  • VObi FieldMastery 40 · Points ?Traps that hit anyone inside the area three times. Since V0.182: 25% less delay between traps and 30% more trap damage.
  • BObi ChargeMastery ? · Points ?Climb up, then dash down at the target. Since V0.182 it cannot be interrupted.

A question mark marks a number still unknown for this art. On Cryokinesis, where the whole tree is known, the moves ask for mastery 14, 27, 40 and 53 and cost 3, 6, 9 and 12 points. How mastery fills is on the mastery page; the fastest ways to raise it are on mastery farming.

Unlocking Obi Manipulation

  1. Get the Obi Manipulation Orb

    Roll at Muzan (how the roll works) or pull it from a chest (orb drop rates).

  2. Crush it and finish the core training

    1. 1. Barbell squats
    2. 2. Boulder Push
    3. 3. Boulder Split
    4. 4. Defeat Mizunotos (5)

    All strength work before the fight: no meditation or cups on this one.

  3. Buy the moves in the skill tree

    Training unlocks the art, not its first move. Open the Obi Manipulation branch, spend skill points on Obi Barrage, then raise Obi Manipulation Mastery for the rest.

  4. Beat Datai for Obi Charge

    Datai, The Obi Demon, has 3,000 health and drops her outfit, a Golden Kanzashi and Obi Charge, each at 5% on the launch bar. She reportedly sits in a cave a short drop from the starting village. One player needed 50 to 60 kills for the full set but got the scroll on the first or second.

What players ask about Obi Manipulation

Does Obi Charge still get cancelled?
Its players asked for hyper armor on it, and V0.182 made it impossible to interrupt.
Is Obi Field any good?
Early on it hit for little outside crowds. V0.182 cut the delay between traps and raised their damage, so it is worth another try.
How many Datai kills does the scroll take?
At the launch rate of 5% a kill, half of players would have it within 14 kills and nine in ten within 45; the rate has been raised since, so expect fewer. The drop odds calculator works it out for any rate.
Where do the tier lists put Obi?
They split: S at Pro Game Guides, which moved it up with V0.182, A at Beebom and C at Destructoid. The widest gap of any art alongside Pyrokinesis.
