The Water Hashira

Giyen (Giyu)

After a Giyen kill the game tells you outright when Dead Calm, Water's last move, cannot drop yet: only once the Water skills before it are unlocked. That notice answers most of the questions about him.

He also drops the Water Katana and the Water Haori; the scroll line now reads 10%.

In the bamboo next to Sabito

Inside Bamboo Grove, just below the Bamboo Grove Sanctuary, next to the mini boss Water Trainee Sabito.

  1. Teleport to the shrine south of Bamboo Grove.
  2. Walk north into the bamboo.
  3. Giyen and Sabito stand next to each other below the Sanctuary.

If Dead Calm shows Unlock Previous, buy the earlier Water moves first; the kill popup says the same. Moves and costs are on the Water page.

His block and his dash

  • One creator says he blocks a lot: wait for him to drop his guard before you swing.
  • One creator calls one of his moves impossible to dodge and says it breaks your armor every time; another calls him easy: he has no ranged attack, and you can hit him right after his dash.
  • Each kill costs 120 Reputation. One player farming him says theirs fell from 600 to minus 4,000.

After the kill: +1,000 Exp, +450 Wen, +540 Sword and Water Mastery, -120 Reputation, and ['Dead Calm'] can drop once the Water skills before it are unlocked.

Why won't Dead Calm drop?
It can only drop once you have the Water skills before it. The line reads Unlock Previous until then.
How long until he comes back?
His plate counts down after a kill, such as Spawns in 2:44. Gyorei's read Spawns in 4:58 right after a kill, so expect up to about five minutes.
