How to get Sound Breathing in Slayers 2
The price is ordinary. The trip is not. Tengai stands on top of a small island north of the shrine in Iceveil Valley, and the valley’s cold drains your health the whole way there. In the route video below, a level 128 player with a health bar just over 1,000 reaches him with almost nothing left and dies seconds later.

The screen edges are washed red and the health bar at bottom left is almost empty. On the right, a nameplate partly hidden by the NPC reads Sound Trai…Tengai. The minimap reads Iceveil Valley.

What Tengai asks for
Level
25
The minimum. The narrator of the route video doubts a level 25 player can survive the walk at all.
Demon Horns
10 two sources agree
Pro Game Guides and the creator’s requirement card agree. The card adds a line asking for luck and patience. Have all ten on you: a second trip costs a second walk through the cold.
Skill tree
Wall Climb one source only
Pro Game Guides lists it. The video shows why: the last minute is a string of double-jump-then-climb moves up rock faces.
How to reach him alive
The damage starts when you enter the snow and does not stop. On screen it shows as the edges turning red. The narrator calls it cold damage and treats the whole route as a race. These are the things that buy you time, each with where it comes from.
Start from the shrine, not the bear area
Pro Game Guides places Tengai north of the Iceveil Valley shrine, and its beginner guide recommends buying fast-travel shrines with Wen, the snow village’s included. Teleporting there cuts the walk to the last stretch. The map page shows where the shrines are.
Carry an Emberheart Lantern if you have one
The item’s own text says its ember holds off the valley’s freeze while it burns and must be relit at a campfire. The narrator of syoct’s endgame video says it drops from the Yeti and that each sit at a campfire adds time, up to ten minutes.
Arrive with full stamina
Running and climbing both drain stamina. On the Wind route through the same snow, later in the same video, the narrator runs dry (14:06). Top it up before you step into the cold, not halfway up a cliff.
More health means more seconds
The drain is a race between your health bar and the route. The recording player was level 128 and still arrived nearly dead, so a few extra levels before this trip are not wasted.

The inventory, with Emberheart Lantern (Legendary) selected. Its text reads Its ember holds off Iceveil's freeze while it burns, then must be rekindled beside a campfire. Stats: +0.35 (Illumination), +25 (Max Health), +20 (Max Stamina). The yellow level banner is the video creator's.

The Emberheart Lantern, in short
Legendary, with small bonuses to health and stamina as well as light. syoct’s narrator says you need a Frozen Heart, found in chests, to make the Yeti appear. tana’s narrator equips his on the way to the bosses in the snow.
The route in the video
revolver agz walks in from the starting village, which is the long way round. The part that matters is the final approach, from the ledge onwards.
- 10:00 Into the snow. The area label reads
Iceveil Valley, and from here the health bar starts to fall. - 10:45 A rock ledge above dark water. The narrator says to jump down here.
- 10:55 Into the water, then out onto the rocks on the far side.
- 11:04 The climbing begins: double jump, then climb, several times over.
- 12:06 Tengai is on the top. The narrator points out how little health he has left.

Once you have paid
Paying starts Sound’s training quest. None of its steps have been recorded, and neither has a Sound trainee: the trainee hunts Muzan hands out to demons name Thunder, Wind, Water, Insect and Flame, with no Sound entry. If your training sends you back into the snow, the survival list above still applies. For the one training quest whose steps are legible, see the breathing styles page.
Tengai the boss, also in the cold
The trainer’s namesake is The Sound Hashira (Tengen in the anime). tana’s narrator finds him right by the Iceveil shrine and mentions you can set your spawn there, which helps if you plan to farm him.

String Performance still needs Sound learned first. For kill counts at 5%, use the calculator on the bosses page.

The Sound Hashira Tengai: the health bar, and under it every drop with its chance, exactly as the game prints them.

Changes since launch, and the tier lists
Neither balance patch names Sound. The developer’s v.09 note skips it, and Pro Game Guides’ V0.145 notes list it among the strong specialists without a change. It is one of only two styles that all three published tier lists put in the same tier; the other is Serpent. Those are opinions, and the full comparison shows how the rest divide.
